If We Claim to Be

We are in tough economic times.

We know that a crisis is going on around the world.

We know about the loss of jobs and the fact that it is harder to raise money now than it was a year ago.

We, who still have so much in comparison to those in the developing world, have stopped giving.

Are we afraid?

What would happen if the material poor gave to those who are even less fortunate than themselves? Would we feel guilty? Inspired? Confused? Maybe we would be forced to search our hearts and explore the possibility that our lives don’t reflect who we claim to be.

Those at FH Kenya did not know whether or not their programs would continue this year. They did not know where funding would come from or whether or not they would have jobs after this year. But as always, God was faithful and so were they.

As a team they decided at Christmas time to collect food and money from each other for those less fortunate than themselves. They bought and collected from within and delivered the packages to 7 needy families.

As an American, I hear about the hardships back home but I must admit that those voices were far away from my mind. Instead, the voices of those that gave and received were in my mind during the holidays. It was later shared that one of the recipient families had run out of food the day before they got there. When FH Kenya arrived unexpectedly it was an answer to their prayer.

This is what it looks like. This is what is done when we live out who we claim to be…
